Recently I was told since March there has been only one occurrence when it didn’t rain for 5 days straight. There’s been a lot of rain falling down on me. Hunter and I got soaked this morning, we moved animals to prepare for a busy next week.
Chickens moved to a new field, the move went easier than anticipated. With 3 dogs, 2 puppies, and 200+ hens, I expected a couple of challenges, it was smooth sailing other than the showers.
Two groups of pigs are moving to new paddocks after the rain lets up, and we plan to fence the next 3-4 paddocks for the cattle. The cattle are in the back 40, where there are several springs and small ponds for them to drink from, over the next week we will only need to check on them, and let them into the next paddock.
The weatherman is saying that we will possibly have a whole week with no rain. With the help of a microloan we purchased an old cut conditioner, and a neighbor is loaning us his baler. We oiled and greased our hay equipment. This week we will cut, ted, rake, and bale at least 50 acres. If the weather cooperates we will put up all 80 acres of late first cutting.
We stocked the freezers with Grass-fed Beef yesterday, a great supply of steaks available this weekend.
