Grass Fed Beef
We believe in challenging the status quo! We do this by rotational grazing our animals across our fields and wood lots. We believe that nature and our animals know best and when given the opportunity they will thrive. Without conventional inputs and vetting. We believe that management intensive grazing is the answer! Our animals just happen to provide our community with amazing, nutritionally dense, juicy, firm yet tender, tasty meats.
West Wind Acres was started with the goal of a healthier lifestyle for us! We decided to start a fold of Scottish Highland Cattle. Highland Cattle have been known since the sixth century, their actual origin is unknown, it is possible that they originated in Scotland, they may have been brought by the Vikings when they invaded the area.
Over the years our cattle herd has grown to include many breeds, as well as crossbred cattle. We still maintain a small group of Highland Cattle, and have added Murray Grey, Hereford, Devon, and Angus cattle.
The benefits of grass fed beef are numerous providing high levels of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and many other.
Our cattle are fed 100% forage, we move them daily to fresh pasture where they enjoy clean fresh grasses, clovers, and weeds. We feed our cattle using Management Intensive Grazing practices, they are moved daily to fresh grass. Both the land and cattle benefit from MIG.
Each section of pasture is used for 1 day, and then has at least 21 days to recover from the pressure the animals put on it. Pathogens die off, manure is absorbed and fertilizes the land, earthworms thrive, more diverse forages grow back, thicker, more dense, and more numerous than the last grazing. Our cattle benefit, by always having clean, pathogen free pasture.
Forage Fed beef is very healthy, lower in cholesterol, lower in fat, has less calories, and is nutritionally dense.
Most importantly it tastes great want to buy some?
