It’s Hay Season
It’s prime hay making season, here’s a few hay season specials. Over the last few months we’ve calculated, added safe guards, and come out realizing we need to make a ton of hay to safely get through winter.
We plan to graze our cattle, pigs and horses into the winter as long as possible. Through stock piling grass in the fields, proper rest periods, along with daily moves, and planned stock pile grazing we could potentially graze 12 months of the year. There are ranches throughout the world that accomplish 12 months of grazing. With that goal in mind we need 0 bales of hay. Just to be safe we are planning to feed hay for 5-6 months, around 1,000 round bales, you never know what the weather will bring. Cattle can graze through tons of snow, but a little ice changes the whole game.
We started making hay a few weeks ago, I was told we put up the earliest first cutting in our area. Over the last few days we cut just shy of 40 acres. Today and tomorrow we are baling and storing the hay from these fields.
Hay season is expensive between diesel, maintenance, and baling twine. To help offset these investments we hope you’ll invest in some of our meats to feed your family.
