Early morning and late night cow checks have been the norm for the last week or so, because we are on calf watch. Typically we prefer mid to late spring calves, however the herd that came with our new farm was bred for calves starting March 1. So far we’ve been lucky that none have arrived during the snow storms. Calf watch continues, when do you think the first calf of the season will arrive?
Several times a day, including right when I wake, even before a cup of coffee, and right before jumping in bed, we check the 20 brood cows. We check for calves on the ground, cows in labor, and signs that labor is on the way. If needed calf watch can include middle of the night checks.
With tax return checks arriving its a great opportunity to sign up for a meat CSA. When you pay up front you get the best price.
We offer several different packages, with our mixed meat CSAs each month you will receive a mix of chicken, pork, and beef. We also offer custom packages, and single meat CSAs with just beef, chicken, or pork. Sign up today!!
The boys and I will be at the farm store from 9-1 today. We have a great selection of Grass-fed Beef, Pork Roast, and Pasture Raised Chickens.
Local Farms Fund is scheduled to close on the new farm in two weeks. They are currently seeking 1-3 more investors for the last $15,000 of Capital!
Upon the closing we will sign our lease with Local Farms Fund. It’s a 20 year lease, we have the right to purchase on the 5th year.
